April Teapot by Nomoco

Thanks for your enthusiastic response. We have sold out of our April Nomoco Teapot already. Check back on May 1st for our Sabine Reinhart teapot. London-based designer Nomoco's effervescent interpretation of the simple round Arzberg teapot was inspired by nature and water, bridging personal recollections of the Nabegataki waterfall in her homeland of Japan and the Serpentine River in London's Hyde Park. Appreciating that the Bauhaus-inspired teapot is perfect in its form without decoration, it on the contrary made me want to fill it in with a rule-less sequence and irregular tempo. Experimenting with a range of material and craft, Nomoco is especially keen on working with ink because of its free-flowing nature and sense of organic movement. An artist who follows her instinct, her wish is simply, I hope you enjoy the teapot. The Arzberg Teapot has been a Crate and Barrel classic since the day we first opened our doors 50 years ago on December 7, 1962. Inspired by the Bauhaus school, its perfectly simple shape was designed in 1931 for the Arzberg porcelain factory in Germany. A young college student by the name of Gordon Segal first bought the teapot as a birthday present for his mother who loved making tea in the afternoon. When he opened the very first Crate and Barrel store in Chicago with his wife, Carole, he bought it again. And again. And again. In a 12-month celebration of our 50th anniversary year, we have invited 12 international designers to envision the Arzberg teapot as their artistic canvas. Each is a limited-edition collector's item, numbered and signed by the artist. -Limited-edition release of 200 -Purchase online only -Limit one per customer -Packaged in a special collector's box crafted of FSC-certified pine wood -Includes Certificate of Authenticity -Pure porcelain -Dishwasher- and microwave-safe -Made in Germany

Beautiful!

"I too knew this was the design for me and made a note on my calendar to make sure I got one! The reason I'm writing a review is that I was anxious about the pictures of the prototype/actual teapot, and I was prepared to be unhappy....Then I got my teapot - and I LOVE it!! The washed out picture published earlier in contrast to the original prototype doesn't do it justice at all. To look at it in person, I would not want the design to be heavier. One of the things I love about it is the watercolor look- such an unexpected contrast to the classic symmetry of the teapot itself. I love the color variation and the tiny secret dragon flies & fish! I love the overall fun nature of it.
I did fall in love with the picture, but you have to see the real thing, a picture almost never looks like the item in person anyway.
PS I was trying to figure out what the reviewer was talking about re:surface "grittiness". I think I feel what she was talking about - it was gone when I gently washed the exterior of the teapot. You can feel a slightly raised area where the design is though."

Worth the wait!

"I saw this teapot in February and decided I must have it. I set my calendar with a reminder so I could order it when the clock struck midnight on April 1. Unlike the other reviewer, I was not disappointed. It is a truly beautiful teapot. The design is lovely. I love the fact that the design has a watercolor aspect to it. The dots are reminiscent of blue bubbles in water and this theme is carried out with the inclusion of tiny fish swimming along the bottom of one side of the pot. I noticed no roughness in the glaze that another reviewer mentioned. Love it, love it, love it!"

so disappointed!!

"The quality of the design/glaze is not worth $200 collector price! Surface of the pot was was gritty and the design seems to be blurry; not sharp and crisp as pictured in brochures. I'm glad I wasn't the only one with issues. Not happy with C & B."

Not as nice

"When I saw these 12 pots several months ago I loved this teapot the most so when I went online yesterday I was surprised to find a less vibrant and beautiful teapot. Definitely a downgraded version. Very disappointing. I'm sure they will sell out, but it is not the same product they advertised when this anniversary promotion began."

Response from Crate and Barrel:By Customer ServiceApril 9, 2013
We appreciate your feedback and apologize that we had to make a few tweaks to the April Teapot by Nomoco while in production. Although changes had to be made, we believe that we were able to reflect the original advertised artwork on the finished teapot. Thank you for taking the time to write a product review. Your feedback is important.

Agree with previous posts

"I agree with the previous posts about the design change. So disappointed that this change was made in the teapot. Colors less vivid and the design continuity in the original advertisement was so much better. Really C&B? You couldn't do better?"

"I agree with csegna. I was amazed by the design of this teapot last year when the circulation came out and have been waiting for all these months. Finally it's time to buy and seeing a downgraded design is quite disappointing. I will have to save the $200 for something else now."

changes

"The original photo of the tea pot in the first ad was so much better looking! The design went all the way to the top of the pot and met the lid. The design also wrapped around the top part of the handle and overall the color was more vivid. These changes make a drastic difference in the design of the pot. The changes make it look much more commercial and mass produced than the original design. I'm sure it had something to do with production cost, but the cost was huge for the overall design."

fish, birds & dragonfly oh my

"The handy zoom feature revealed wonderful surprises such as the aforementioned fish swimming towards the bottom of the teapot and birds and at least 1 dragonfly flying towards the top of the teapot. What a lovely nature inspired design filled with hidden treasures. Thank you Nomoco for a delightful work of art. Now if only we could find a generous donor. sigh"

My favorite

"The fade is beautiful, and the little fish near the base of the handle are a great slightly whimsical touch! The addition of some non-water colored dots at the top near the handle will always remind me to care for the natural environment and the safety of our watersheds and oceans. All that with such a simple and pleasing design!"
