Folio Oyster Leather 30 Barstool
The familiar lines of classic Italian design reinvented with comfort and value in mind. At a glance, you notice the generous, clean Parsons-style lines and fine quality leather in a warm oyster. Up close, it's the small details that make the big difference: solid welded steel frame, full wrapping in aniline-dyed leather with mitered corners, and seat and leg with full flange seaming. A thick, sculpted leg supports the comfortable, foam-cushioned seat. Disappointed
"I purchased 3 of these stools. After just a few years of LIGHT use, 2 stools have cracked leather and the 3rd does not seem to be far behind. These were relatively expensive for what they are , and I thought that at this price they would hold up much better.
Based upon other reviews it is apparent that the leather on these stools is defective. C&B should be ashamed of themselves for not standing behind an obviously defective, albeit premiumly priced product."

disappointed
"I purchased 2 of these as I loved the style. I wanted them for a look with granite counters. Though seldom used the one started showing small tears after only 3 years of use. They are obviously not good quality for the price. Don't buy these! Not up to Crate & Barrel usual standards.!"

Very Curious
"I am in the process of communicating with Crate & Barrel about my TORN barstools. While they have been very polite, the end result is that they are saying my chairs are a result of normal usage!!!! Normal usage. Clearly I am not giving up and confident that they will eventually make this right, but has anyone else had a positive experience? Or is everyone else living with torn chairs as well?"

Bummer Barstools
"Like others, I really wanted to love these barstools. We purchased 5 barstools, 5 years ago & all of them started coming apart a couple of years ago. Much to my dismay, I have been living with the stools...but it has reached the embarrassing (& uncomfortable) point. I see below that Crate & Barrel excitedly announced that they have re-bulit the stools with superior construction, which is good. What I really want to know is: will they replace my 5 barstools? I don't want to stop shopping at Crate & Barrel, but at almost $2K for stools - I need them to last! I will call them tomorrow (Monday) to see what they decide!"

Loved this Product Before I Hated It

"I purchased 5 counter-level Oyster Folio bar stools about three years ago. We had just renovated our kitchen and I looked everywhere for functional, attractive kitchen stools. For about 2 years we LOVED these stools. However, as reported by others, despite gentle use, they soon fall apart. The edges crack and the leather has literally wiped off the seats of the most-used stools. I originally thought my children might have had a pencil or something sharp in their pockets that caused the initial "damage." But there was no proof of that, especially when one day over the December holidays I noticed the "damage" seen in the attached photo. How or why our stools were falling apart remained a very frustrating mystery. Now, thanks to others' comments, I see these problems are a product defect. I owe my children an apology for thinking it might be their fault, and Crate & Barrel owes us new stools. These stools were very expensive and should have lasted longer."

Versatile, functional, attractive

"In the course of designing my new house, with particular attention given to ergonomics, I noted that dining tables are typically 30" high, kitchen counters 36" high, and bars 42" high. Well, to heck with that. My kitchen is wide open, across the bar, to the living room. I decided to make all surfaces 36" high. Rather than having a "step-up" bar, I kept the bar a continuation of the granite kitchen counter, but made it extra wide -- 5 feet. And I made the custom free-standing 8-seat dining table, four feet from the bar, 36" high as well.
Why does all of this matter? Because it enabled double- duty for the chairs, which, as it turned out, were 24" seat height Folio leather barstools. Put all eight at the dining table, and leave the bar open for a buffet. Or move six of them to the bar for smaller gatherings. Eight chairs in a dining/bar area is quite enough; if I had a standard height dining table with eight chairs, plus six bar stools, it would've looked like a furniture showroom.
Plus, I really like the taller dining table. I'm not getting any younger, alas, and the mid-height bar chairs are easy to get in and out of. Or maybe it's a sign of a bad upbringing -- I'm used to bar chairs. And the Folios are great -- firm, yet comfortable, easily cleanable with a damp towel, and very slick-looking, in my opinion. I chose the kiwi color, and they jump out in an otherwise neutral room; more timid souls may choose the oyster color.
Very happy with my choice."

Leather cracking after four years

"I love the look and style of these. We bought four barstools in oyster and six dining chairs in brown. However, the leather on the barstools is cracking and splitting after only four years. After close inspection of the dining chairs, they look like they could start splitting and cracking, too."

ghastly product
"I bought three of these barstools and six dining room chairs a few years ago. The leather is a horrible quality. The oyster color has rubbed off in places on the seats of the barstool, which get daily (though careful) use. Thus there are large black splotches on the seats. In the dining room, where the chairs receive gentle use, the leather on the chairs has become cracked along the top, with the deeper cracks showing black underneath. Poor, poor quality. I've purchased lots of Crate and Barrel furniture in the past, but this product makes me reconsider whether I will shop here for furniture again."

Smart looking and comfortable
"I purchased 2 of the oyster counter height stools and am very happy with them. They look really elegant in the space. I also love the light weight and how strong they feel.
It has been dificult to find barstools with good style, comfort and strength. These cost more than the others I was considering. I am so happy I spent the extra money."

"Upon completion of a major kitchen remodel, we hunted in all the usual places for barstools, and these were the only stools we found that:
1-had matching chairs
2-were this nice, smooth leather
3-were nice, smooth leather in these colors (we have Ash, which are a nice, light pewter)

Folio barstool
"Granted we've had these awhile, but both Folio barstools are beginning to form deep cracks the size of a quarter along the top corners of the barstool backs. Seems the leather dhould have had padding to protect it from the frame. I expected these to last a bit longer considering the price!"

Great barstool
"I have four of these in Ash. They sit along the kitchen peninsula, fitting in perfectly with the Calacutta Oro marble countertops. The back keeps my little ones from slipping off, they are comfortable enough to eat an entire meal at the counter, and are easy to wipe clean. The only downside is the crack at the back of the seat where food can get stuck."

Love these bar stools!
"This is my second set of the oyster bar stools. We had one set in our last apt and then moved and bought them again (in a different height) for our new place. They stay pretty clean, have a nice modern look and are very comfortable to sit in. I also ordered an additional one in the regular chair size to use for a desk. I was nervous about the color (thinking they may get dirty), but you can just wipe them down with a damp cloth. Only down side is they are slightly heavier than an avg wood stool. I highly recommend!"
