Samoa 20-Piece Dinnerware Set

Beautifully Crafted Pieces
"I read up on the past reviews and was hesitant on purchasing this set for my china collection. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how beautifully crafted each piece looked as I took them out of the box. I haven't had the opportunity to use them yet, but I don't plan on using them for everyday wear. I won't be putting them in the dishwasher - I prefer washing them by hand especially since my dishwasher doesn't perform all that great. The serving pieces were purchased separately and are bigger than I had anticipated them to be. I do plan on purchasing flatware to match - thinking of the Aero pattern."

Beautiful but not durable
"I was looking on the website for a new dinnerware set & was surprised at the 4/5 ranking these received. I felt obligated to put my 2 cents in for young couples who might be considering these because I've been completely disappointed. I registered for them over 5 years ago for my wedding, knowing I wouldn't spend the $30/plate on my own, and now only have 1/2 of the dinner & salad plates left (hence why I'm looking for new ones). They're very beautiful but not worth the price. The glaze chips and the plates end up cracking & breaking in half just from regular use. By all means, if you have the money to replace these often I would suggest getting them for the look. If you're like me and are expecting quality for the price, you might want to try another set (I have a less expensive set I bought before I was married, well under 1/2 the price of these, that have only broken with accidents. Granted they aren't as nice looking but aren't that far behind. How disappointing that more money was spent & less quality was received.)."

Beautiful!
"I bought these 6 years ago and am back to get more. In that time they have been heavily used and yes two salad plates have chipped... but that's what happens to ceramics. I am a potter and love the glaze on these plates. The satin glaze on the outside feels good to the touch and the crackle gloss inside is easy to clean. Each plate is unique in glaze and makes every dish look delicious! I don't own china and these bridge the gap between an everyday dish to something special that your guests will remark on."

Beautiful, not functional
"These plates are just beautiful and very durable. That being said, I would never buy them again or recommend them. The bottom support ring is too small making the dish shaped slightly like a bowl. When using your fork or knife on the outside of the plate, the plate tips spilling the food and causing your guests to be embarrassed."

Beautiful
"Love these dinner plates. The only complaint I would have is that the color varies pretty widely. Some of the dishes are a very clear and beautiful green, while others lean much more toward a black color. Which, being that they are stoneware, is expected, just a little disappointing. Otherwise, very happy with them!"

elegant daily dinnerware
"Beautiful dinnerware. Cereal bowls are smaller than preferable and optional low bowls are also somewhat shallow. Unique design. Coffee mugs are well balanced and sized. Rather pricey, but unique."

Pretty, but not practical
"My husband and I registered for this pattern 8 years ago and have been using the set daily since we got married. At first they were great, but after 8 years, I have some gripes. First, this stoneware cracks very easily. We have all of our plates, but several mugs and a couple of the small bowls have bit the dust. The remaining small bowls have chips around the edges.
Now for the dinner plates... don't try to cut a steak on these things. If you push down at all toward the outside of the plate, it will tip down to the table. That's because the diameter of the ring that it sits on is very small. So effectively, any pushing you do on it to cut anything has to be done toward the middle of the plate, or very carefully if toward the outside. Also, the glazing appears to be coming off, these plates definitely look "used".
Overall, I'm disappointed in the longevity of this dinnerware, compared to it's cost. I'm planning on selling these (if anyone will even buy them) and getting a nice set of sturdy white dishes."

Jungle Fever
"This dinnerware setting is the most popular setting I have and the one that makes a statement when people come over. Our home has a forest theme with the colors and these plates are perfect for our theme. They are strong and durable. My husband and I eat out of these plates all the time. 10 years and still in love
"This summer will be my 10th year wedding anniversary, thus the age of most of my Samoa set. After all these years, I still love this set and have no intention on replacing it. I check every once in a while to see if any new pieces are added to the collection. My favorite addition are the small square plates - perfect for an appetizer. I'm most pleased to see the dinner plate base widened - I've noticed dinner guests tip their plates with the older design. I also had an issue with my initial set of plates cracking when I had them in the microwave for 2 minutes or more. The store happily replaced the cracked plates and I've been issue free since. I highly recommend this set. They're absolutely lovely - and hardy (survived 4 military moves and toddlers so far)."

Color Has Changed - Beware
"I just purchased 10 place settings of Somoa and was disappointed when 70% of the pieces were a much darker green color than what I had seen in my local store. What I fell in love with was the contrasting light to dark color and unique patterns but the newer dishes are all a uniform deep green. A manager at my local store is helping me try to find older pieces so my set will match. I realize the changes may be beyond C&B's control but I hope they can get Jars to go back to the original color scheme."
