Poor installation design
"I noticed in the store before purchasing that the shelf was not flush tight against the wall and somewhat drooping but I figured it was due to improper installaton. I'm very experienced with drywall, carpentry, etc and have hung vitrtually everything possible on a wall. I can tell you now, the shelves utlize poor installation hardware and just poor design. Rather than using a simple cleat to hang (like other shelves) they employ the 3 small holes. Not only is this difficult to align even with the included template, but it is virtually impossible for the shelf to be flush against the wall and straight. No matter what you do, the shelf looks like it is drooping. I even purchased some cleats thinking I would attach to the back to hang but unfortunately, they are too wide for the back and would show"

Difficult to hang and make flush with the wall.
"As many have stated, this larger shelf if hard to install and have hang flush with the wall. The laminate finish is also easy to damage and have "flake" away during the installation process. That said I did get them installed, used some shims to make them level and used superglue to tack down the laminate that was flaking away. They are in a low traffic area and look nice now they are installed. I would not suggest that they are installed in a high traffic area where they may be bumped/jared."

Great shelf
"This is a beautiful shelf! I think it was worth the money. It looks great with my photos and decor items on it. The installation was a little tricky however. My husband had to use different mounting hardware because the hardware that came with it didn't work/fit and the shelf wasn't supported correctly. With the correct sized hardware the shelf looks amazing on my wall! I would recommend to anyone!"

"very very difficult to install. Returned and purchased for another supplier's who has a better install system where you attach a light metal cleat that has multiple holes so you can hit studs and a built in level and the ledge then clicks in."

Horrible Installation
"The shelves themselves are very nice however, they have quite possibly the worst installation design I've ever seen. While the template is helpful, the hardware is inadequate. If you can manage to actually get the shelf aligned with all three screws it's still not flush mount to the wall."

Just Right
"We had a small niche just crying out for picture rails and these did the trick just right. The template that came with them was wrinkled beyond use, but the hardware was great (and much more important)"

Does not hang - DON"T BUY
"My husband is very handy at hanging anything, i bought the photo ledges and they hung fine, this one though was TERRIBLE, no matter what he did, it still "droops" slightly. very disappointing. Wish i would have bought online and read the reviews, i bought in the store and had no reviews to read! Lesson learned for actually going to a store!"

Poor design, would not recommend
"I purchased 3 of these shelves for my kitchen. Hanging the shelves was difficult and the shelves do not hang flush against the wall. I had to use shims to square off the shelves. The mounts allow for a bit of play, so using the stencil doesn't work."

Large Shelf Won't Hang
"The box and the 2 foot photo ledge look great and hang just fine. The large 3 foot shelve is too heavy to hang with the hardware provided. Now that I have three huge holes in the wall, I will be returning it to try out the 3 foot photo ledge instead and crossing my fingers that it will hang."

Dont waste your money
"So disappointed... If I had bought this at a department store I would have understood the poor construction, but from crate and barrel? Ridiculous... Screw is too small to handle the weight of the ledge. Ledge pulls screws from wall which means the ledge leans forward and is not flush. I had to purchase 2 decorative wall brackets to place under the shelf so it wouldn't lean. Do not recommend this."

Worst...
"Completely agree with previous post. These shelves look great - but they do not stay on the wall and are not sturdy. They are front heavy and you can barely put anything on them, without them tilting forward. I do not recommend. I have numerous holes in the hole due to poor instructions. Instructions say to use a 5/16 drill bit to install the achors, and that is way too big - the achors wouldn't hold. I will be returning, but now also have big holes in the wall."

Worst Purchase Ever
"These ledges fell off my walls twice, breaking everything on them and damaging my floor. Besides ruining drywall when trying to initially install, the ledges basically flipped off the wall after several weeks. Ledge design is poor with it being front heavy."

Happy with purchase
"I was a little nervous after all the bad reviews related to hanging them, but it actually wasn't that hard. the mounting hardware seems to be the same quality that you usually find with this type of product (and they give you a small level). I have hung floating shelves in the past and they are a little tricky, but these were no harder than others. The quality is a little below average for Crate & Barrel, but the price reflects that. Once you get the first one up, the rest go pretty quick. Having a Carpenter Square ruler handy definitely will make things go smoother as you can easily check to see if your marks are level before drilling."

Pain to hang, but love the finished product!
"It takes a lot of patience to hang the ledges! We purchased several of the regular ledges and photo ledges for a scattered look. It took a while to map out the space for each ledge and then took a whole lot of re-balancing to ensure they were level! However, they look awesome now that they are up!"

Love these shelves!
"I was a little hesitant to buy these shelves when I saw the reviews on here, but I was very pleasantly surprised by them! I've had some experience building furniture -- my own, for my apt -- but certainly wouldn't call myself an expert. However, these shelves were really very simple to put up. Mine don't lean away from the wall at all and they look great! I did not take a measurement of exactly how far I screwed in my screws, but would recommend trying them at 3/8" and then readjusting them until the shelf lays flush against the wall -- mine were definitely closer than 3/8".
Overall, I was very pleased with these shelves and would recommend them."

Did not live up to expectations
"My boyfriend and I bought these shelves online after looking at them in stores. The 3ft ledge arrived battered and without any padding. The shelf was warped and unusable. We will be returning that one to the store. We tried installing the 2 ft shelf using the paper template only to discover after several tries that the template doesn't match up with the braces on the shelf. We cannot get the shelf to stay flush to the wall. It leans no matter what we do. We took it down and plan on returning it."
