Surprisingly Low Quality for Crate and Barrel

"Looks beautiful and high quality in the picture. And based on previous experience with hardware and furniture from Crate and Barrel we were expecting a really well made fireplace tool set to go along with the good looks. And the price seemed very good for a well made modern looking too set. Unfortunately, the quality is below avg. Had to return the first tool set we received because the base stand pillar was curved/warped. The second set was thankfully straight. But both sets feature weak and sloppily welded joints, a pewter finish that is chipping off in areas, and frankly an overall quality that is certain to not last normal usage for a year or two. The aesthetics of the set are sharp and modern and just what I was looking for, especially from afar. Unfortunately the quality, ruggedness and materials just do not meet Crate and Barrel brand expectations. My recommendation is to not purchase this set unless you get it for at least half off, and use it mostly as a decorative accessory, not as a utilitarian tool. I hope my next purchase from Crate and Barrel online will be more satisfactory."

poor quality

"We've been looking for modern fireplace tools for a long time. We saw this set in CB and, as one of the other reviews states, found them to be on the light side, but decided to take a chance – they looked great! If you never build a fire and need something to look cool - maybe these tools are for you. If you build fires nearly every light in the winter, don't bother with these. The handle on the poker fell off after a couple weeks; another handle, on the shovel, is loose. The broom is flammable. Glad we didn't toss the old wrought iron set out! btw: the first site of the cheap, lightweight Chinese packaging should have caused initial concern. We learned the hard way. Don't make the same mistake. These fireplace tools are cheap."

Good basic set

"The tongs aren't the best for gripping logs, but overall it's a decent basic fireplace tool set."

Affordable, yet modern!

"This modern fireplace tool set is exactly what I was looking for at a great price! It's very reasonable compared to other modern sets I've come across. They look great and work well, too! I got them in the brown/bronze color, but they actually look more black than anything else."

Great Set

"I bought one of these sets for my daugher and her husband for Christmas. I had looked so many places for just the right style -- up-to-date, but not too modern, stylish and good qualty. We were very pleased with the quality and the finish. My daughter loved the style and when we put it together, we could tell how solid it was. SO, I bought another one for my other daughter and her husband. They are both very pleased and I'm thrilled that I was able to find the perfect set that fits in both of their uniquely styled homes."

Very Good

"I love the look of this set and it is perfectly functional. I am not sure what size logs/ fires others are trying to manipulate but these tools are plenty strong for average size split logs. While I can see where they may not be as strong as my old cast iron ones (which are now going to the outside fireplace where they belong) they look a whole lot better in my living room."

Gorgeous and Mostly Solid

"I picked up my set in-store as my local just happened to have a few on hand. Set was packaged in excellent condition and fully assembled. The heft of the tools feels a bit lightweight, but after all they aren't made of cast iron. My only concern: the tools aren't solid pieces, and the handles have been attached via spot-weld to the implements. The poker in my set has a slight wiggle to it within the mounted handle, so I am concerned that might pose a problem at some point. I also think certain shortcuts in the manufacturing process were taken to lower the price point of this item (other similarly styled sets sold, such as those made by Blomus, go for quite a bit more); for example, the underside of the tool holder at the top of the base isn't fully finished. Overall, the set looks amazing and I actually prefer it aesthetically to other more expensive sets available. I'm certain it will be a long-lasting and functional part of my home."

Beautiful modern set for the price

"I've been looking for a modern fireplace set for YEARS, and finally found it! The tools work just fine, and the set really looks great next to our contemporary fireplace. Is this the most heavy-duty set of fireplace tools you can buy? No. The tools are solid, but if you build a fire many times a week, I don't think it'll hold up/look good for years. But it does the job in our home where the look is important (while being used just a couple times a month). And it arrived in perfect condition, very well-packed."

Sleek fireplace tools

"The fireplace tool set is sleek and beautiful. It fits so nicely in our transitional home. They have a nice weight; not too heavy and definitely not flimsy. They come individually boxed and ready to go, no assembly required!"

Worst Purchase Ever

"Possibly the worst purchase I've made in some time.
This $160 set is, at best, worth $70. Upon opening the package I found that the handle on the shovel had already been broken off. The base is dinged and scratched and, generally, all tools are irregular in shape and finish.
I know it's tempting but, unless you like paying a lot for a little, I'd strongly reconsider. It's very poor quality."
